Asunción International Marathon

The Asunción International Marathon will take place on August 30, 2026. The event includes marathon, half marathon, and 10km distances.

Asunción is currently the country's main river port and cultural center, as well as being the seat of the three branches of government. The economic, cultural, diplomatic, social, and industrial entities of Paraguay are centralized in this capital.

The race starts at Costanera and the course passes through historic and iconic locations in the Paraguayan capital. The timing is one of its advantages; the course consists of two laps of the marathon distance and has a gentle elevation gain, which has attracted athletes of various nationalities seeking to complete the circuit. Mega Finisher.

Asuncion

Asunción is the capital of Paraguay and has many popular museums, such as the Clay Museum and the Museum of Sacred Art. It also hosts major festivals like Asunción and Lollapalooza.

Asunción is currently the country's main river port and cultural center, as well as being the seat of the three branches of government. The economic, cultural, diplomatic, social, and industrial entities of Paraguay are centralized in this capital.

Asunción is also a haven for merchants, who travel to the capital to buy various products to resell in different countries. Taxes in Paraguay are low compared to other countries, such as Brazil, making its wholesale trade the main form of economy in the country, which, incidentally, has become one of the most successful in South America in recent years.

What to do in the city of

Asuncion

A journey through time

The House of Independence is the site where Uruguay's independence was proclaimed. Today, the house has become a sanctuary for national freedom, with many related artifacts that bring the country's history to thousands of tourists every year.

A tribute to the heroes and the civic center.

The civic center of Asunción is located in Heroes' Square. At the heart of the area is the National Pantheon, which pays tribute to the heroes of Paraguayan independence and to great military figures of recent times. Elsewhere in the square, you will also find a somber memorial to the 20th-century dictatorship in Paraguay, and there's a good chance you'll encounter some folk musicians, as well as an arts and crafts market.

indigenous art

The most charming museum in Paraguay can be found in the suburbs of Asunción, a short bus ride from most central hotels. The quality of the ceramics, textiles, and artwork on display in this small but beautifully transformed museum is exceptional. Initially created to showcase ceramics made by indigenous peoples, today the museum has become a much broader collection of native crafts and historical objects, providing a surprising window into ancient life in the country. There is also a sublime section of contemporary Latin American art on site.

A food shopping mall

Located in the central Pettirossi neighborhood, Mercado 4 stretches across the equivalent of three or four city blocks and offers a dizzying array of products. Much of the space is dedicated to fresh produce and cooked food (making it a great place to sample Paraguayan street food), but there are also handicrafts, clothing, and even vendors selling electronics in this enormous market. If you're looking to try some grilled chicken skewers, filet mignon sandwiches, or Paraguayan soup, this is the place to go.

A bar to relax in.

In the center of Asunción, near Heroes' Square, you'll find Lido Bar, a traditional establishment similar to the well-known "botecos" (traditional bars) in Brazil. They serve snacks and beers. It's worth relaxing in this bar, as you'll experience a bohemian yet classic Paraguayan atmosphere.
